Screw Piling

Screw piling is a modern displacement piling method that’s particularly well-suited to sites with high water tables, unstable soils, or collapsible ground conditions. Capable of carrying axial loads exceeding1,000kN, screw piles deliver strength and reliability where traditional piling methods often fall short.

Why Choose Screw Piles?

Cost-effective: A proven alternative to conventional bored, driven, or CFA piles.
No spoil generated: As a displacement pile, screw piling eliminates the need for soil removal.
Minimal impact: Vibration-free installation makes it ideal for sensitive or built-up areas.
Immediate loading: Structures can be built on screw piles straight after installation – no curing time required.
Versatility: Performs exceptionally well in both compression and tension applications.
A Brief History
Screw piling isn’t new. The first recorded ground screw was installed in 1836 by Alexander Mitchell for submarine moorings. By 1838, screw piles were being used as foundation supports for the Malin Sands Lighthouse in England – proof of their durability and reliability.
Today’s Applications Fast forward nearly 200 years and screw piling has become a widely accepted foundation system across a huge range of industries. You’ll find screw piles in: Rail and infrastructure projects Mining and resources Commercial and residential buildings Marine and boardwalk construction And countless other applications Engineers and builders around the world recognise screw piles as one of the most efficient, reliable, and adaptable foundation systems available.

Screw Pile Range

At Piletech, all screw piles are manufactured in-house to strict quality standards, giving us full control over performance and reliability. Our range covers shaft sizes from 76mm diameter tubes through to 323.9 mm tubes, with helix diameters varying from 300mm to 850mm. For more demanding ground conditions, we can also configure piles with multiple helical flights on a single shaft to maximise load capacity.
The sizing and type of piles for each project are determined by our in-house engineering team. By analysing site-specific geotechnical conditions and structural loads, our engineers design screw piles that are precisely tailored to the requirements of each project, ensuring optimum performance and cost efficiency.

Installation Capabilities

At Piletech, we pride ourselves on having one of the largest ranges of screw piling equipment in Australia. Our fleet includes machines from 4.5-ton right through to 40-ton rigs, capable of pitching single-length piles up to 9 meters. All screw pile tooling is designed and manufactured in-house, and every item is independently certified by external mechanical engineers.

We have successfully installed screw piles to depths of beyond 30 metres, achieving reliable founding in both challenging soils and rock. Where piles need to be extended, we carry a fleet of mobile welding units and employ qualified welding personnel who complete all work to the required Australian Standards (AS/NZS 1554 – Structural Steel Welding).

All in house welders undergo independent testing to maintain compliance and quality assurance. To support our piling operations, Piletech also maintains a fleet of tilt trays, tippers, and crane trucks, ensuring our crews have the right gear on site at all times. Because we manufacture in-house, if site conditions change unexpectedly, we can quickly produce pile extensions or alternative pile types to keep your project moving without delay.

Our installation capabilities include:

Reaching depths beyond 30 meters,
Handling installation torques up to 250,000Nm,
Delivering robust, reliable foundations across demanding ground conditions
